About
Bringing outdoor sensor data to users
Client & product:
Sensor Innovation is a system that combines hardware sensor data with software algorithms to inform users about issues (such as water leaks) at industrial and residential sites. It also accounts for the influence of the weather on sensor data.
Challenges:
Our client already had a working product when they hired us. However, the existing version of Sensor Innovation required improvements. It needed a complete refit with a better UI and more functionality, including the ability to show data directly on a building’s virtual blueprint.
Job done:
We assembled a team consisting of a product manager and UI/UX designer, two back-end developers, and two front-end developers to redesign the platform and add the required features.
Dashboard:
An intuitive dashboard shows customers a concise overview of all their sensors, messages, alarms, and warnings. Service companies can also use this dashboard to control the status of messages.
Building map:
A customizable building map allows users to create a virtual representation of the sensors’ location and shows the status of each sensor.
User roles:
Sensor Innovation supports a complete hierarchy of users within the app: a super admin controls service companies, which in turn manage properties owned by customers.
Weather dashboard:
The system shows the nearest contractors to a Weather can affect sensors and that has to be accounted for. To keep data relevant, users can cross-check reports from sensors with historical weather data location first on the listing page.
Outcomes:
Sensor Innovation received an online platform that was much better in every aspect compared to their old platform — from the streamlined UI and performance to additional features. The addition of a weather timeline decreases the number of false alarms, while the virtual building maps help to optimize coverage and find possible blind spots.
