Improvements to Custom Polls Platform Pollapp is a simple-to-use platform for custom polls with images to quickly get opinions on almost any topic. The platform allows creating and participating in polls as well as chatting with other users of the system. Challenges and Objectives Often, making quality improvements to an already existing product is much more difficult than creating a product from scratch. It was also the case with Pollapp. We had to thoroughly analyze the app to determine its UI/UX weaknesses and find which improvements would positively impact its performance and increase attractiveness for users. In addition, we had to fix some technical issues and improve the overall performance of the app. We based all our decisions on usability testing; closely followed iOS and Android guidelines for colors typefaces, layous, transparency levels, sizes and so on; and considered color inclusivity so people with sight issues wouldn’t experience any discomfort using the app. Results We addressed an issue of too much free space in certain areas, which negatively affected user experience, changed fonts and its size in certain cases to increase visibility, added labels, information about password requirements, changed colors to improve contrast where required, deleted unnecessary elements that cluttered up the screen, added some buttons to improve intuitiveness, changed distances between some elements, and much more. Finally, we tinkered ‘under the hoof’ of the app to enhance its performance under heavy loads and get rid of some well-hidden bugs.
